Home Visits
If possible please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit. A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to see a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

Urgent Appointments
If you have a problem which you feel needs attention urgently on the same day and cannot await a routine consultation, please phone the Receptionist, who will take your details and ask a clinician to phone you back, and they will then deal with your problem in the most appropriate manner

Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. 10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Plans for the new Bingham Health Centre - LATEST NEWS

A bigger, modernised health centre to replace Bingham’s Eaton Place surgery has been given the go-ahead. P lanning permission for a new centre on Newgate Street, behind the existing surgery, was granted by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
It includes permission to demolish part of the current surgery and Close Acre Cottage, on Newgate Street.
The new centre will provide family doctor and community- based services such as district nurses, health visitors and midwives. There will be more clinical rooms to provide for Bingham’s projected population growth and a larger carpark.
The possibility of including Rushcliffe Borough Council’s customer service contact point is also under consideration.
Tree and shrub planting will take place as part of the development, and the installation of bat and bird nesting boxes and an archaeological evaluation are planning conditions.

Mr Niel Strawson, a director of developers MF Strawson, said: “This is great news for the patients in and around Bingham who have been waiting for a new health centre for such a long time.
“We are keen to get on site and build the new health centre, which we hope to complete by the end of 2012.”

Dr David Petty, lead GP for Belvoir Health Group, said: “We are delighted that our plans and aspirations for a new health centre will now become a reality.
“We are committed to delivering the best possible services for our patients, and new premises built to the highest standards will allow us to provide the quality of care that our patients deserve.”

Our receptionists are available at the surgery from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm every weekday except Wednesday, until 12.30 pm. On Wednesday afternoons our automated repeat prescription service is still available as normal. For other services, your call will be diverted to our Cotgrave Surgery. Please still call 08444 773 999*, press 3 for Bingham and the Cotgrave receptionists will help you with your enquiry.

Test Results

You should enquire about the results of any tests by telephoning between 2.00 and 6.00 pm weekdays except Wednesday.

We are occasionally asked to help teach medical students about general practice. You may find one accompanying your doctor during consultations, but if you object to this, please let your doctor know this and the student will be asked to leave.

DISPENSARY AND REPEAT MEDICATION

If you would like to order by telephone we do have an answering service between 12.30 pm and 10.30 am the following morning (including weekends and bank holidays). If you do need to speak to someone, you can call between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm weekdays.

We are fully computerised and you will receive a printout giving details of all your medications for each repeat prescription and you can order repeats in writing by handing in or posting this slip to us. If you notice an error on the print out please let the Dispenser or Receptionist know.

If you want your prescription to be sent to you in the post please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

At regular intervals, all patients on repeat medication need to be seen by a doctor or nurse for a review of their medication, and the timetable for this is given on your repeat medication slip.

We are able to provide a home delivery service for Dispensing patients. We are also able to provide Dosette boxes for patients who may struggle to take their medication correctly. Please ask at Dispensary for more information.

Our PRACTICE MANAGER, Mrs M Hemmett, is based at the Cropwell Bishop Surgery and is responsible for the business management and administration of the whole Practice, supported by a Surgery Manager at each of the three centres.

Our SURGERY MANAGER at BINGHAM is Mrs D Bowler.

Practice Nurses are accessed STRICTLY BY APPOINTMENT only. The Nurses have a responsibility for many health care issues within the Practice that includes appointments for minor illness, raised blood pressure (hypertension), family planning, as well as chronic diseases. Additionally they have responsibility for wound management within the Practice setting.

The Practice Nurses and Doctors are supported by fully trained Health Care Assistants, who also perform blood tests.

A full list of attached staff that work at the Practice is available from the Primary Care Trust.

District Nurses and Nursing Auxiliaries are attached to the Practice and offer nursing care for patients who are unable to leave their homes.

Community Midwives help to run the Ante-natal clinics, and with the Health Visitors run ante-natal classes, parent craft and post-natal groups.

Health Visitors give health care advice to all parents but especially to expectant mothers, families with young children, the handicapped and the elderly.

Chiropody is available by referral from the District Nurse, Practice Nurse or Doctor. If you require a community service, you will need to telephone the Health Centre direct 01949 837944.

Option 3 – Bingham Surgery

The Department of Health recommend that people who are 65 years old and over, or who have health problems, are given a seasonal flu vaccination as influenza can cause serious illness.

Patients will be sent a letter if they are in this group and did not attend one of our drop-in clinics, inviting them to call the surgery where they are registered to make an appointment

65 years of age or over (or you will be 65 by 31^st March 2012)

Pregnant

Or have one of the following conditions:

· Chronic Respiratory Disease

· Asthma that requires continuous or repeated use of a steroid inhaler

· Chronic Heart Disease

· Chronic Renal Disease

· Chronic Liver Disease

· Chronic Neurological Disease
