Travel information

If you require any travel vaccinations, you will need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.

In order to ensure the most up to date and comprehensive advice is available, the Belvoir Health Group will only provide services if patients have accessed www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk prior to their appointment.

Please refer to their website as a first port of call for travel queries. The website is run by the NHS and provides detailed information regarding travel, vaccinations and anti-malarial medication and will often answer all of your questions:

Fit for travel (online NHS advice).

You will need to book an appointment with one of our nurses if you have unanswered questions or if you need any immunisations. Please print the information relevant to your travel destination from Fit for travel and bring this information with you to your appointment.

Please note that certain immunisations and anti-malarial prophylaxis are NOT available on the NHS. Our nurses will do their best to guide you as to where to seek help if you require private input.

The following vaccinations are provided free of charge:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid
  • Combined hepatitis A and typhoid
  • Tetanus, diphtheria and polio given as combined vaccine
  • Cholera
  • Combined measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)

Non NHS services

The doctors are entitled to decide what services to provide that fall outside the NHS contractual obligations. Non NHS Services are often referred to as ‘private work’ . Doctors can choose what they offer and some service may have a charge. These services include private health care, insurance forms, holiday cancellation forms, local council letters and many others. We aim to complete non nhs requests within 28 days of receipt. Please see a summary of our fees below.

We often get asked “I only need the doctor’s signature-what is the problem”. When a doctor signs a certificate or completes a report, it is a condition of remaining on the Medical Register that they only sign what they know to be true. Therefore in order to complete even the simplest of forms, the doctor needs to check the patient’s entire record. Carelessness or an inaccurate report can have serious consequences for the doctor, with the General Medical Council or even the Police.

Please note that we do not provide ‘Pregnancy fit to fly certificates/letters’. Pregnancy related Fitness to Fly letters do not fall within our NHS obligations and we presently do not have capacity within our clinical workforce to assess a patient’s fitness to fly at the current time. There are private GP services available locally & nationally that may be able to assist.

We are unable to respond to requests to provide fitness to participate in sports and extreme sporting events.

Long-term Conditions

All patients diagnosed with eligible chronic diseases are recalled each year in the month of their birth.

For most conditions, this will require two appointments, one with a Healthcare Assistant and a second with a Nurse skilled in chronic disease management.

These are important reviews aimed at supporting you by providing education, encouraging shared decision making and giving you the confidence to manage your health.

Please respond when you receive a letter invitation to book your review by contacting our reception team.

Non-urgent advice: LTC review invitation

We recall patients for their annual review by letter or text message. If you receive a letter or a text message from us calling you for your annual review, please contact the surgery on 0115 896 9991 and ask to make an appointment.

Reception will book you in with the appropriate person. This will be a Practice Nurse or a Health Care Assistant and may be a face to face or telephone review.  If you have Diabetes or Chronic Kidney Disease, please bring a urine sample with you to your first appointment.

Please note that we usually recall patients for their annual review during the month of their birth. This may mean that you are being called for your review sooner than you are expecting. Please be assured that following this, you will be called for your review once every 12 months, during the month of your birth. Please do not book in for your review at any other time in the year as we will be unable to complete this for you unless we have sent you a specific invitation.

These are important reviews and we hope that you will attend. An annual review helps us to monitor your care and therefore if you do not attend it may impact on our ability to prescribe some medications for you. However, if you do not wish to have your review when recalled, please contact the surgery to let us know.

It may be that when you receive a letter or text message, you already have an appointment booked for your review or you may have very recently had your review. In this instance, please disregard the letter or text message.

In line with NHS guidance re COVID 19, please wear a face covering when attending for your appointment.

Belvoir Health Group has recently become involved in clinical research. This means that we give our patients the opportunity to take part in selected research projects and contribute to improvements in healthcare both locally and nationally.

The practice is Research Ready Accredited. Research Ready® is a quality assurance programme for all research-active UK GP practices. It is designed in line with the UK Research Governance Framework’s legal, ethical, professional, and patient safety requirements. The programme serves to provide information, support and guidance to accredited practices in research; both to assist with meeting the requirements above, and with considering and conducting research.
