There has been lots of publicity about weight loss injections such as Mounjaro recently. Here is some information on who may potentially be eligible to receive these via NHS services.
You can find more information at notts.icb.nhs.uk/healthy-weight/.
Please note the following important information if you are taking or are considering taking Mounjaro or similar medications:
GLP1 agonists (Mounjaro/tirepatide) and contraception and HRT
GLP1 drugs such as Mounjaro are prescribed for diabetes but also for weight loss. These drugs interact with the absorption of the hormone progesterone when it is taken by mouth. This hormone is in oral contraception and oral HRT.
It is important that you are aware of the following information:
- If you start a GLP1 such as Mounjaro from a private provider they should counsel you about interactions.
- If you are using oral contraception you must use a barrier method alongside your contraception for 4 weeks after starting or any dose change in your GLP1.
- If you are on oral HRT and you are prescribed a GLP1 you need to inform the surgery so your HRT can be altered for 4 weeks after starting or any dose change.
